LIED COMPOSITION COMPETITION ALVARO GARCÍA DE ZÚÑIGA / SOND’AR-TE / MATEUS
In order to encourage the creation and dissemination of new LIED works the Sond’Ar-te in partnership with Fundação da Casa de Mateus is organizing the LIED COMPOSITION COMPETITION ALVARO GARCÍA DE ZÚÑIGA / SOND’AR-TE / MATEUS.
RULES OF THE COMPETITION

The competition is open to composers of any age and nationality.
Each contestant can submit only one work.
The work written for duo with voice must use a text of ALVARO GARCÍA DE ZÚÑIGA.
The submitted work must be written for duo: voice (soprano, baritone) and 1 other chosen instrument between the following instruments: violin, clarinet, flute, cello or piano, with or without electronics or live-electronics.
- flute (may also double piccolo, alto flute, bass flute);
- clarinet in Bb (may also double A, Eb, Bb bass clarinet);
- piano (may also double keyboards / synthesizers / midi piano, but not Disklavier);
The submitted work may include a maximum of eight-channel loudspeaker system; the use of the following DAWs: Digital Performer, Reaper, Logic Pro; the use of the interactive applications Max/MSP or Supercollider – all operable on Mac OS. Any additional software and/or plug-in must run on Mac OS; it must be freeware and needs to be provided by the applicant.
The submitted work must not have been commercially published or awarded in any national or international competition.
The required duration of the work is between 7 and 15 minutes.
The score / parts needs to be written on computer notation software.
The application with the complete set of materials (see below) must be submitted no later than 2024-03-31 to the following email: sondarte@sondarte.com
APPLICATION
All applications must include the following materials and information:
Work title
Digital score in .pdf format written on computer notation software
An accurate estimate of the duration of the work.
The year of composition.
Description / program notes of the submitted work in English (up to 500 words)
Electronic part in a zipped folder and sent to the same email as above by We transfer or similar file transfer system (pre-recorded material and / or final version of live processing patches, ready for performance and including all necessary instructions for set-up and performance);
Recording (audio or video) of the piece (if available)
Scan of identity card or passport
A short biography in English (up to 500 words);
A recent photo (preferably in jpeg);
Postal address, e-mail, website or link to the publisher (if available) and phone number
All necessary information/documentation relevant for consideration by the Jury and organizers, apart from the score and optional recording (e.g., scheme of the sound system, disposition on stage etc.).
The results of the competition will be officially announced by the 1 th of December 2022 on www.sondarte.com. The winner of the competition will be contacted by email.
The applicant grants Sond'Ar-te permanent, irrevocable and without payment his copyrights for any performances given.
This also includes in particular the right to show the production or parts thereof on the website of the Sond'Ar-te and Fundação Casa de Mateus or on social media and the right to use photographs and/or videos taken as part of the performance of the work, to publish them on the website and in publications and to use them for press information and public relations of the Sond'Ar-te and Fundação Casa de Mateus.
The organiser of the competition reserves the right to make changes to the rules if circumstances requires.
PRIZE
The winning work will be performed by the Sond’Ar-te at Fundação Casa de Mateus and in Lisbon at O’culto da Ajuda.
The winning work will be integrated in the Sond’Ar-te’s repertoire and the winning composer will receive a prize of 1500€ and will be invited to attend the rehearsals and concert.
If the winning work is by a Portuguese composer it will also be published by the Portuguese Music Research & Information Centre – MIC.PT publisher.
